New Delhi, August 5: In a significant breakthrough in India’s fight against transnational financial crime, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has successfully secured the deportation of Interpol Red Notice subject Vishakha Rathod from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India.

The fugitive was deported on August 3, 2026, marking another milestone in the country’s sustained efforts to bring economic offenders to justice, irrespective of international borders.

Upon her arrival in Pune, Rathod was immediately taken into custody by a team of the Maharashtra Police, paving the way for legal proceedings in the financial fraud case against her.

According to the CBI, Rathod is wanted in connection with a large-scale financial fraud in which she, along with her associates, allegedly orchestrated an elaborate investment scam that deceived numerous investors.

Investigators allege that the accused lured victims into investing in multiple schemes by falsely assuring them of fixed monthly returns, creating an illusion of lucrative and risk-free investments.

The agency has alleged that, acting in criminal conspiracy with others, Rathod dishonestly misappropriated the funds collected from investors and systematically diverted the proceeds through a network of bank accounts and demat accounts in an attempt to conceal the money trail. The alleged modus operandi reflected a carefully structured financial fraud designed to siphon off investors’ money while evading detection by enforcement agencies.

As part of the investigation, the CBI had earlier secured the publication of an Interpol Red Notice against Rathod, enabling international law enforcement agencies to locate and detain her for extradition or deportation.

The successful operation underscores the growing effectiveness of international police cooperation in tracking fugitives accused of economic offences.

The CBI credited the seamless coordination among the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and authorities in the United Arab Emirates for facilitating the deportation.

The operation highlights India’s expanding international collaboration in ensuring that fugitives cannot evade the reach of the law by crossing national boundaries.

As India’s designated National Central Bureau (NCB) for INTERPOL, the CBI plays a pivotal role in coordinating with domestic law enforcement agencies through the BHARATPOL platform while facilitating international cooperation via INTERPOL channels.

The agency continues to leverage these mechanisms to trace, locate, and secure the return of wanted fugitives involved in serious criminal offences.

The deportation of Vishakha Rathod is expected to provide a crucial impetus to the ongoing investigation and reinforces the principle that financial offenders will be pursued across jurisdictions until they are brought before the courts to face the due process of law.
