NHRC Sets Up Camp in Patna: Two-Day Open Hearing to Tackle Bihar’s Human Rights Violations

New Delhi, 5 October 2026 — In a significant move to bring justice closer to victims, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, will conduct a two-day ‘Open Hearing and Camp Sitting’ in Patna on 7th and 8th October 2026.
The proceedings, held at Gyan Bhawan, aim to address alleged human rights violations across Bihar, with the Commission’s Full Bench and Divisional Benches hearing complaints directly in the presence of complainants and state authorities.
Full Bench to Hear Cases on Day One
On 7th October, the Full Commission will sit to hear cases, comprising:
Chairperson: Justice V. Ramasubramanian
Members: Justice (Dr.) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Smt. Vijaya Bharathi Sayani
Complainants and concerned state officers will be present during the hearings, ensuring immediate interaction and accountability.
Divisional Benches Focus on Bonded Labour and Compliance
The second day, 8th October, will see the Commission split into two Benches:
Chairperson’s Bench: Dedicated to cases of alleged bonded labour.
Division Bench: Comprising Justice (Dr.) Sarangi and Smt. Sayani, will handle compliance matters and other human rights complaints.
Engagement with Civil Society and State Officials
Following the hearings, the NHRC will:
Hold an interactive session with civil society organisations, NGOs, and Human Rights Defenders.
Conduct a concluding meeting with senior state officers to discuss critical human rights issues specific to Bihar.
A Continuing Commitment to Accessible Justice
Since 2007, the NHRC has periodically held Camp Sittings across various states to facilitate easy access to justice for victims of human rights violations.
