Fraud in the Black Coats: CJI Tells CBI Needs to Step In as BCI Stays Silent
(By Syed Ali Taher Abedi)
New Delhi,15, May,2026-The nation’s highest judicial authority fires a bombshell and the legal fraternity may never be the same again.
In a stunning courtroom outburst that has sent shockwaves through India’s legal establishment, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant dropped a judicial grenade on Friday, declaring that he is actively contemplating ordering a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the authenticity of law degrees held by advocates practising in Delhi.
The explosive remarks came as a bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi was seized of an application filed by an advocate challenging the Delhi High Court’s senior designation process a matter that swiftly transformed into a full-blown indictment of the legal profession itself.
Trained eyes within the courtroom watched in disbelief as the Chief Justice the guardian of the entire judicial edifice unleashed a scathing broadside.
Declaring that he had been closely monitoring the inflammatory content being posted on Facebook and other social media platforms by certain advocates, CJI Surya Kant questioned whether these individuals held genuine law degrees at all.
In words that will echo through the corridors of every district court in the country, the CJI thundered from the Bench:
“I am waiting for some matter…I want the CBI to verify the LLB degrees of most of the Delhi people…in Tis Hazari so and so…the kind of Facebook and things they are putting…do they think we are not watching? BCI will not do anything…thousands of them are fraudulent people who are wearing black robes…
I have serious doubts on the genuineness of their law degrees. Probably CBI will have to do something.
BCI will never do, because they are hands in glove, they are absolutely in collusion.”
The accusation against the Bar Council of India the statutory body entrusted with regulating the legal profession is nothing short of devastating. The nation’s Chief Justice, in open court, accused the very watchdog of the legal profession of being complicit in shielding impostors who have infiltrated the Bar.
The CJI did not stop there. He warned that there were enough “parasites” in society already attacking the judiciary, and called upon lawyers not to join hands with them.
His words from the Bench painted a striking picture: “There are already parasites of society who attack the system and you want to join hands with them? There are youngsters like cockroaches, who don’t get any employment and don’t have any place in the profession.
Some of them become media, some of them become social media, some of them become RTI activists, some of them become other activists, and they start attacking everyone…and you people file contempt petitions!”
The question now gripping the legal world Will the CBI be directed to tear open the credentials of Delhi’s legal community? And if thousands of fake advocates are indeed lurking behind black coats how deep does the rot go?
