Shaik Riyaz’s Family Alleges Custodial Death in Complaint to Telangana Human Rights Commission
(Judicial Quest News Network)
Hyderabad, 27, October,2025 – In a poignant and solemn development today, the family members of the late Shaik Riyaz—comprising his mother, wife, and minor children—appeared in person before the Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) to submit a formal complaint. The family alleged that they have been subjected to continued harassment and physical torture, including third-degree interrogation methods, by the concerned police officials. They also claimed they have been barred from entering their own residence, exacerbating their distress in the wake of Riyaz’s recent death in a police encounter.
The complaint detailed a troubling backdrop where the deceased police constable, Mr. Pramod Kumar, had allegedly demanded a sum of ₹3,00,000 from Shaik Riyaz. Of this demanded amount, ₹30,000 had reportedly been paid, with allegations of fraudulent monetary transactions between the two men further complicating the case.
Significantly, the Telangana Human Rights Commission had earlier taken Suo-motu cognizance of the incident based on a media report (vide HRC No.6745/2025) and had directed the Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana, to file a comprehensive factual report by November 24, 2025. Given the fresh and grave allegations by the family, the Commission has expedited the hearing of this Suo-motu case to today and directed the DGP to submit a detailed report at an advanced date of November 3, 2025.
Upholding the principles of justice and human rights protection, the TGHRC emphatically ordered that no coercive action or harassment be inflicted upon any family member of the deceased Shaik Riyaz, thereby reinforcing the rule of law and the protection of vulnerable parties amid contentious and sensitive police encounters. This development underscores the Commission’s commitment to rigorous scrutiny and accountability in law enforcement actions within the State of Telangana.
