New Delhi, August 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested proclaimed offender Jitendra Pathak, who had allegedly been absconding for nearly a decade in a cheating and impersonation case involving the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Pathak was arrested on August 19, 2026, from Ludhiana, Punjab, following sustained efforts by the CBI, including field verification and technical analysis, officials said.

The CBI had registered the case on July 13, 2009, against Pathak and another accused for allegedly cheating a private individual by promising to secure him employment in Parliament in exchange for ₹50,000.

The agency subsequently completed its investigation and filed a chargesheet against both accused in December 2009.

However, Pathak failed to appear before the trial court at any stage after the chargesheet was filed. Despite persistent efforts to trace him during the trial, he remained untraceable for several years.

After completion of the prescribed legal formalities, the trial court declared Pathak a proclaimed offender on September 28, 2016.

Acting on credible inputs gathered during field verification, the CBI established that Pathak was residing in Ludhiana.

A meticulously planned operation, supported by technical surveillance and analysis, led to his successful apprehension on August 19, bringing his decade-long evasion of the law to an end.

Further legal proceedings against the accused are underway.
