New Delhi, August 19, 2026: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken Suo motu cognizance of a media report concerning the alleged physical assault of two men from Manipur in the Munirka area of the national capital.

According to the report, published on August 14, 2026, the victims were allegedly attacked by two persons following a dispute over a minor issue.

One of the injured men reportedly sustained serious head injuries and is currently on ventilator support at a hospital.

Taking note of the reported incident, the Commission observed that, if the allegations are found to be true, they raise serious concerns relating to the violation of the victims’ human rights and their right to life, dignity and personal security.

The NHRC has accordingly issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, directing him to submit a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.

The report is expected to set out the status and progress of the police investigation, the circumstances leading to the alleged assault, the action taken against the accused persons and the present medical condition of the injured victims.

The Commission’s intervention underscores the constitutional and legal obligation of law-enforcement authorities to ensure that no person is subjected to violence or deprived of dignity and bodily security, irrespective of his place of origin.

The NHRC is expected to examine the matter further upon receipt of the police report.
