NHRC Probes Alleged Assault & Forced Disrobing of Rajasthan Schoolgirls

New Delhi, July 20, 2026: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has taken Suo motu cognizance of a disturbing media report alleging that girl students of Classes IX and XI were frisked, physically assaulted and forced to remove their clothes by two teachers at a government school in Liwali village of Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhupur district, following the alleged loss of ₹1,000 by one of the teachers.
Taking a serious view of the allegations, the Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan, directing the State Government to submit a detailed report within two weeks.
According to the NHRC, the allegations, if found to be true, disclose a grave violation of the human rights, dignity and bodily integrity of the victim students, warranting immediate intervention by the country’s apex human rights watchdog.
As per the media report dated 17 July 2026, the students were allegedly subjected to frisking, beaten and compelled to remove their clothes in an attempt to recover the missing cash.
Despite the alleged humiliating ordeal, no money was recovered from any of the students.
The report further stated that after returning home, the students narrated the incident to their parents, triggering widespread outrage. The following day, a large number of parents reportedly gathered at the school and staged a protest, demanding accountability for the alleged misconduct.
The Commission’s intervention underscores the constitutional imperative to safeguard the dignity, privacy and fundamental rights of children in educational institutions.
The NHRC is expected to examine the State Government’s response before deciding on further proceedings.
