Judicial Equity Demand Gains Momentum: THCAA Meets Congress, BJP Chiefs Over Judgeship Appointments

Hyderabad, June 20: In a significant move highlighting concerns over judicial representation in the State, the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association (THCAA) has intensified its campaign for adequate representation of Telangana advocates in appointments to the High Court Bench.

A delegation of the Association, led by its President Sri S. Surender Reddy, met with Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud, President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), and N. Ramchandra Rao, President of the BJP Telangana unit, to press its demand for what it termed as “fair and adequate representation” of Telangana advocates in judicial appointments.

During the meetings, the delegation submitted a detailed representation along with a copy of the resolution adopted at the Extraordinary General Body Meeting of the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association.

The Association conveyed its deep concern that Telangana advocates were allegedly not receiving proportionate representation in appointments to the High Court, despite the State having a vibrant and experienced legal fraternity.

The delegation emphasized that equitable representation of local advocates in judicial appointments is essential not only for maintaining regional balance but also for preserving public confidence in the justice delivery system.

The Association argued that Telangana lawyers possess the requisite experience, competence, and understanding of local legal and socio-economic issues, making their inclusion on the Bench imperative.

The THCAA leaders urged both political leaders to take up the matter with the concerned constitutional and governmental authorities and to support the demand for greater representation of Telangana advocates in future appointments to the High Court.

According to the Association, both leaders responded positively to the concerns raised and assured the delegation that they would extend their support and make appropriate representations before the relevant authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Association’s office-bearers reiterated that the issue transcends political considerations and pertains to ensuring fairness, inclusivity, and recognition of the contribution made by Telangana’s legal community to the administration of justice.

The delegation comprised Sri S. Surender Reddy (President), Sri D. L. Pandu (Vice-President), Sri P. Shravan Kumar Goud (Secretary), Sri. K. Niranjan Reddy (Secretary), Smt. Krishna Keerthana (Joint.Secretary) Sri Balaji Banoth (Treasurer)and Sri Vishnu Vardhan Jayasurya (Sports and Cultural Secretary). Committee members Sri Konda Reddy Jakka, Smt. Rukmini Pallela, Ms. Shilpa Gelli, and Sri Poolsingh Naik Ramavath were also present and actively participated in the submission of the representation.

The development assumes significance amid ongoing discussions within legal circles regarding transparency, diversity, and regional representation in appointments to constitutional courts.

The THCAA’s initiative is likely to further fuel debate on ensuring balanced representation of members of the Bar in the higher judiciary, particularly in States where local advocates have long sought a greater voice on the Bench.
