CBI Traps MIB Accounts Officer in ₹10 Lakh Graft Case; Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe Through Spouse

NEW DELHI, 19, August,2026— In a swift, targeted enforcement action against high-level administrative corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a senior public servant a 2020-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer serving as the Deputy Controller of Accounts and Internal Financial Advisor (IFA) in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

The premier investigative agency registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) on August 18, 2026, under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, following a detailed complaint lodged against the delinquent official.

Statement of Allegations

Initial Demand: According to the formal complaint, the accused officer allegedly demanded an illegal gratification advantage to the tune of ₹15,00,000 from the complainant in exchange for expediting the processing of an official file.

Quid Pro Quo: The official file in question pertained to the pending contractual renewal of a private commercial enterprise before the IFA desk.

Negotiated Settlement: Subsequent to negotiations between the parties, the accused public servant agreed to scale down the pecuniary demand and accept a reduced bribe amount of ₹10,00,000 as illegal consideration.

The Trap Operation & Apprehension

Acting on verified intelligence and formal authorization, the CBI lay a pre-arranged trap on August 18, 2026. The agency successfully intercepted the transaction, catching the public servant red-handed while accepting the negotiated sum of ₹10,00,000 through his spouse, who acted as an intermediary.

The accused public servant was immediately taken into custody pursuant to statutory procedures.

He is scheduled to be produced before the designated Special Judge for CBI Cases in New Delhi for the purpose of seeking judicial custody and custodial interrogation.

Further investigative proceedings, including raids and material collection to establish the complete chain of conspiracy, remain underway.
