Delhi,1, July,2026- In a development that has sent ripples through the law-enforcement community, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 2012 batch, Haryana cadre, who was serving on central deputation with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Delhi.
The arrest follows an inquiry into alleged demand for illegal gratification linked to CBI probes into the sale of counterfeit drugs in Puducherry.
The CBI had registered the case on 8 June 2026 against an Inspector in the Delhi Police and two private individuals.
During the course of its investigation, the agency discovered that the recently arrested IPS officer had purportedly promised to use his personal influence to secure relief for private persons who were the subject of CBI inquiries.
The officer is accused of demanding money in return for such intervention.
Earlier phases of the probe led to the arrest of the Delhi Police Inspector along with six private persons.
Law-enforcement sources say those arrests produced substantial material evidence, including the recovery of approximately Rs. 25 lakhs seized as trap money and another Rs. 90 lakhs recovered during searches, together with several incriminating documents.
Acting on leads developed in the probe, CBI teams conducted coordinated searches at multiple premises linked to the arrested IPS officer.
Investigators seized numerous digital devices, hard disks and relevant documents, which will be subjected to forensic examination and evidentiary scrutiny as the inquiry proceeds.
The CBI has not yet named the accused in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing probe; charges will be finalised after analysis of the seized material and further interrogations.
Sources said the investigation will examine the nexus between public servants and private persons involved in the alleged racket surrounding sale of spurious drugs in Puducherry, and will explore whether any other officials were complicit.
Legal observers noted the matter raises serious questions about corruption within ranks of law enforcement and the vulnerability of criminal probes to improper influence.
The CBI’s swift action in arresting an IPS officer on central deputation underscores the agency’s assertion that no public servant will be immune from investigation where corruption is alleged.
Investigation in the case is continuing and further arrests or disclosures may follow as the CBI completes forensic analysis and gathers additional evidence. Would you like a shorter bulletin-style version for social media or a version tailored for legal/official release?
