SCBA Rises in Support: Calls for Urgent Government Action on Sonam Wangchuk’s Demands for Educational Reform

New Delhi, 16, July,2026– The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has issued a powerful resolution, publicly backed activist Sonam Wangchuk and appealed for an immediate end to his indefinite hunger strike.
The SCBA expressed profound concern over the government’s perceived inaction regarding Wangchuk’s protest, which highlights critical issues of alleged examination irregularities and a broader erosion of accountability within public institutions.
In a resolution adopted on July 16, the SCBA Executive Committee acknowledged Wangchuk’s selfless dedication, noting that he has put his health and life at risk to advocate for the future of India’s youth.
His ongoing fast has brought national attention to systemic failures impacting millions of students, particularly concerning the NEET examinations.
The Committee lamented the lack of urgency from institutional bodies despite Wangchuk’s extreme measure. “The Committee expresses regret that despite a person of Mr. Wangchuk’s integrity being willing to undertake such an extreme step for the betterment of the education system, institutional conscience has not responded with the urgency and sensitivity the moment demands,” the resolution stated.
It further highlighted a troubling period marked by “systemic failures affecting millions of young citizens and a troubling erosion of accountability across public institutions.”
While expressing solidarity, the SCBA also appealed to Wangchuk to discontinue his fast, emphasizing that his continued presence and leadership are vital for strengthening institutions and restoring public faith. “India needs him to remain alive, active, engaged, and able to lead from the front.
The long journey of strengthening institutions and restoring public faith requires his continued presence and full strength,” the Committee urged.
In a significant move, the SCBA pledged to provide legal and research support to initiatives promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability in educational processes.
The Association also committed to advocating for reforms that enhance institutional integrity and foster sustained public engagement, aligning with constitutional morality and the long-term interests of India’s youth.
This resolution follows similar appeals from prominent legal figures, including Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal and SCBA President Vikas Singh, all urging Wangchuk to end his hunger strike while acknowledging the gravity of his demands.
