Massive Drug Bust at Secunderabad Station: 52 Kgs of Ganja Worth ₹26 Lakh Seized by Railway Police

Secunderabad, April 9, 2025 — In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Secunderabad Railway Station seized a massive haul of 52 kilograms of dry ganja—estimated to be worth ₹26,00,000—during a surprise inspection operation on Tuesday.

The successful operation was carried out as part of an intensified anti-drug campaign directed by senior railway police officials. Around 2:30 PM, Sub-Inspector Sri D. Ramesh, along with his team from the Railway Police Station (RPS) Secunderabad, was conducting a routine security check on Platform No. 07, when they noticed four unattended bags lying suspiciously near a food stall on the Khazipet-end of the platform.

Upon investigation, and in the presence of two mediators, the team opened the bags and found 26 neatly packed packets of dry ganja, each weighing approximately 2 kilograms—totaling 52 kilograms. The seizure was formally registered under Crime No. 187/2025 under Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act, 1985, and Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).

The operation was led under the guidance of Smt. Chandana Deepti, IPS, Superintendent of Railway Police, and Sri S.N. Jawed, Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police (DSRP), Secunderabad. The seized narcotics were taken into custody by Sri R. Yellappa, In-charge SHO, IRP Secunderabad, and his team.

Sri K. Ramesh Naidu, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Railway and Road Safety, lauded the swift action and vigilance displayed by the Secunderabad GRP and RPF teams. He commended their dedication to curbing illegal drug activities in railway premises and announced that the officers involved in this successful bust would be suitably rewarded for their outstanding work.

This operation highlights the ongoing commitment of the Railway Police to ensure passenger safety and uphold law and order within the country’s vital transport network. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
