Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association Honors CM VD Satheesan in Grand ‘Prathibha’ 2026 Ceremony

23, July, 2026 Kochi, Kerala – The Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association (KHCAA) recently hosted its prestigious ‘Prathibha’ 2026 event, a grand felicitation ceremony honouring Chief Minister VD Satheesan, State Ministers, MLAs, and newly elected members of the Bar Council of Kerala. The event celebrated the significant contributions of legal professionals to public life and governance.
Chief Minister Satheesan, himself a distinguished lawyer and a member of the KHCAA, was specially recognized with a traditional ‘ponnada’ and presented with a commemorative plaque.
The ceremony also saw the honouring of MLAs Mathew Kuzhalnadan and Chandy Oommen, alongside all KHCAA members who were recently elected to the Bar Council of Kerala.
The event was graced by an array of prominent dignitaries, including Chief Justice Soumen Sen, Advocate General Jaju Babu, Fisheries Minister VE Abdul Gafoor, and MLAs Mathew Kuzhalnadan, Chandy Oommen, and Fyzal Babu VK. Their presence underscored the importance of the legal fraternity’s role in the state’s leadership.
During the felicitation, several speakers reflected on the invaluable contributions of lawyers to public service and the remarkable achievements of the bar body.
KHCAA President Peeyus A Kottam hailed Chief Minister Satheesan’s appointment as a landmark moment for both the Association and the broader legal community.
“It is indeed a moment of immense pride and joy for all of us.
Our dear friend, our close associate, CM VD Satheesan, has assumed the high office of the Chief Minister of Kerala.
This is a historic moment, not only for him, but also for the entire legal fraternity and KHCAA,” stated Kottam, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of a Chief Minister emerging from their ranks. He also proudly noted that 12 members of the newly elected Bar Council of Kerala are from the KHCAA.
Chief Justice Soumen Sen, in his address, highlighted the legal profession’s foundational role in governance and democracy. He remarked, “The Bar has always been a nursery of leadership.
India’s freedom movement witnessed lawyers emerging as nation builders, and many of the architects of our Constitution came from the legal profession.” Justice Sen further elaborated that legal practice instils essential qualities such as analytical thinking, constitutional values, wise decision-making, and sensitivity to public concerns, all crucial for democratic institutions.
Advocate General Jaju Babu echoed these sentiments, tracing the rich tradition of lawyers entering public life both in India and globally.
He pointed out the unique distinction of the current state government, with a KHCAA member as Chief Minister and three Association members serving as State Ministers. Babu lauded CM Satheesan’s seamless transition from law to politics, acknowledging his reputation as both a lawyer and a political leader.
Legislators present at the event, including MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan, shared how their legal training profoundly shaped their public careers. Kuzhalnadan emphasized the precision and discipline learned in law school, which continues to guide them in public life. MLA Chandy Oommen highlighted CM Satheesan’s career as an inspiration, demonstrating that a successful advocate can indeed ascend to the highest political office in a state.
MLA Fyzal Babu similarly attributed CM Satheesan’s dynamic and sharp performance in the legislature to his legal background.
In a significant announcement, Chief Minister Satheesan confirmed that the proposed Advocates’ Protection Bill is ready and will soon be introduced in the State assembly.
He assured the legal community that the law would provide “sufficient protection” for advocates and reiterated the State government’s commitment to addressing the Kerala High Court’s pending demands.
