Interstate Ganja Smuggling Racket Busted: Two Arrested with 10 KGs of Ganja at Secunderabad

Secunderabad, 27th December 2024 – In a major breakthrough, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have successfully dismantled an interstate Ganja smuggling network between Odisha and Maharashtra. On 27th December 2024, authorities apprehended two individuals carrying over 10 kilograms of dry Ganja, worth approximately Rs. 2,53,575, at Secunderabad Railway Station. The two men, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were transporting the illicit substance from the Koraput forest area of Odisha to Kalyan in Maharashtra.

Details of the Arrest:
The two accused, identified as Arun Kumar (28) and Dipak Kumar (22), both residents of Rajapur, Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, were picked up by GRP and RPF officers during a surprise raid targeting drug traffickers on trains and platforms. The suspects, who were reportedly picking waste plastic bottles for a living, were found with the contraband in a bag aboard the Mumbai LTT Express, travelling from Visakhapatnam to Kalyan.

Their operation was part of a larger smuggling network orchestrated by Mohit, an absconding accomplice from Rajapur, Maharashtra. According to reports, Arun and Dipak were recruited by Mohit after he promised them a substantial reward of Rs. 15,000 for transporting the Ganja.

The Smuggling Route:
On 25th December, the accused travelled to the Koraput forest area in Odisha, where they purchased 10 kilograms of dry Ganja for Rs. 20,000. They then boarded a train to Visakhapatnam, where they were instructed by Mohit to continue their journey to Kalyan, where he would meet them. En route to Kalyan, they were intercepted by law enforcement at Secunderabad Railway Station, where their possession of 10.143 kilograms of Ganja was seized.

Appreciation and Acknowledgment:
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Ms. Chandana Deepti, IPS, Superintendent of Railway Police, and Mr.S.N. Jawed, DSRP SC(U). The efforts of the officers were lauded by IGP Railway and Road Safety, Mr. K. Ramesh Naidu, IPS, who commended the swift action in thwarting the illegal drug trade. The seized Ganja has a market value of Rs. 2,53,575.

The authorities continue their search for the prime suspect, Mohit, who remains at large.
