Infant Trafficking Syndicate Busted: 11 Arrested in Rachakonda, Four Infants Rescued

Hyderabad, February,25,2025.In a major breakthrough, Rachakonda police have dismantled an illegal infant trafficking ring, arresting eleven individuals involved in the illicit procurement and sale of infants across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The operation, carried out by the SOT Malkajgiri team in coordination with Chaitanyapuri Police, led to the rescue of four infants and the arrest of key suspects who were found transporting and selling the children.

The prime accused, Kola Krishnaveni (29), a medical representative from Quthbullapur, and her accomplice Battu Deepthi, masterminded the operation, purchasing infants from Vandana, a woman from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The infants were then trafficked with the help of Sunitha Suman and Savitri Devi, who facilitated their transport to Hyderabad.

The ring’s modus operandi involved using social media to connect with traffickers and purchasing infants for between Rs 1.5 to 2.5 Lakhs. The babies were then sold to desperate families in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for prices ranging from Rs 2.7 Lakhs to Rs 5 Lakhs, with profits shared among the criminals.

On February 25, 2025, police acted on credible information, arresting Krishnaveni, Savitri Devi, and Sampath Kumar while attempting to deliver a baby boy at Chaitanyapuri Bus Stop. Further investigation led police to Deepthi’s residence, where three more infants were found, all procured in similar circumstances.

The infants, two girls and two boys, were sold under the false pretense of providing birth and adoption certificates. Their illegal transactions included:

•       Baby Girl I: Procured on 28.01.2025 for Rs 2.3 Lakhs and sold to Ogeti Sravani of Vijayawada for Rs 2.7 Lakhs.

•       Baby Girl II: Procured on 04.02.2025 for Rs 2 Lakhs and sold to Teppala Swathi in Hyderabad for Rs 2.5 Lakhs.

•       Baby Boy I: Procured on 12.02.2025 for Rs 4.2 Lakhs and sold to Lingala Ramesh in Mahaboobabad for Rs 4.8 Lakhs.

•       Baby Boy II: Rescued on 25.02.2025 during the police operation.

The authorities have urged citizens interested in adopting children to strictly follow the legal process and refrain from engaging with illegal mediators.
