THREE & HALF YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF Rs. 52 LAKH TO THEN SENIOR DIVISIONAL ENGINEER OF SOUTHERN RAILWAY

The Special Court for CBI Cases, Jaipur (Rajasthan) has sentenced Sh. Bharat Lal Meena, then Senior Divisional Engineer, Southern Railway, Mysore (Karnataka) to undergo three & half years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 52 lakh.
The instant case was registered on 22.12.2002 on the allegations that Sh. Bharat Lal Meena, Senior Divisional Engineer was carrying a cash of Rs. 50 lakh (approx.) while travelling with his family in a train (Mysore to Sawai Madhopur). A Joint Surprise Check was conducted at Sawai Madhopur and it was found that the accused was in possession of Rs. 31.90 lakh (approx.) in his bigger suit case & Rs. 20.10 lakh (approx.) in smaller suit case (total Rs. 52 lakh). The accused failed to explain the source of said amount. The investigation revealed that Disproportionate Assets for Rs. 51.59 lakh (approx.) was allegedly found during check period from 01.01.1999 to 28.12.2002.
CBI filed a chargesheet on 25.11.2004 u/s 13(1)(E) r/w 13(2) of PC Act, 1988. Charges were framed on 02.04.2014.
The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
