PIL In Bombay High Court Seeks CBI Investigation Against Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde,Dy CM D.Fadnavis For Death of 14 People Due To Sunstroke At Khargar Award Event

Mumbai, April, 25, 2023: A Public Interest has been file in Bombay High Court seeking action against Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, and Dy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for death of 14 people who died due the heat-stroke during an award distribution event in Khargar.

The event was held on April, 16, at Navi Mumbai’s Khargar.

The PIL is filed by an Advocate Shaila Jitendra Kanthe through Advocate Nitin Satpute which states that they approached the High Court as the police failed to take cognizance of the matter.

It is submitted that due to the negligence of the State Government more than 100 people died in the controversial surrounding mismanagement and due to the laxity of the Maharashtra Bhushan Award ceremony organised by Mahrashtra on April, 16 2023, in which 14 people died due to heat-stroke.

The petitioner also filed criminal complaints but no action has been taken yet.

According to a estimation a crowd of more than 10 lakh s sat under a scorching sun for over 7 to 8 hours at the Khargar International Corporate park grounds while the award was being conferred on social activist Mr.Dattatreya Narayan.

It is further submitted that the state government had spent Rs.13.62 Crore for the function, in which Union Home minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknatha Shinde, Dy Chief Minister D.Fadnavis and union Minister Kapil Patel were on the dais.

The petitioner further submitted that Corona disease is increasing rapidly in many parts of the country and Mumbai. The news of Corona surge is continues being broadcast by various news channels and social media platforms quite frequently.

Moreover, it further states that there was no roof or tents to protect the public from the intense heat of the afternoon and that the government had set up two temporary tents for VIPs while the common people were compelled to sit on the ground in the scorching heat without tents for nearly 5 to 8 hours.

The petition sought the registration of FIR against organisers of the event including the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for the death of 14 people. Further it is sought direction from the court on the said case that after the registration of the FIR, it is transferred to the Central Bureau of investigation.

The plea further sought the direction to be issued to the Chief Minister and Dy. Chief Minister to pay a sum of Rs. 50 lakhs as compensation to the families of deceased and Rs 5lakh to the injured people.
