(By Syed Ali Taher Abedi)
5, May, 2026-The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested the Branch Manager and a Tout/Bank Mitra of Bank of Baroda’s Nonari Bujurg branch in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh, following a bribery complaint linked to interest‑subsidy documents under government employment schemes.
The CBI registered the case on 3 June 2026 after a complainant who had obtained a Rs.10 lakh loan under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in December 2023 to set up a solar flour mill alleged malpractice in obtaining documents necessary to claim interest subsidy under the Pt. Deendayal Gramodyog Rojgar Yojana. Although the complainant had earlier received the first installment of the subsidy, he alleged that when he approached the branch for further requisite documents, the Branch Manager, through the tout/Bank Mitra, demanded an undue gratification of Rs.25,000 and threatened to withhold the documents unless the bribe was paid.
Acting on the complaint, CBI officers laid a trap on 4 June 2026.
The tout was apprehended red‑handed while accepting Rs.15,000 as part payment on behalf of the Branch Manager. Both the tout/Bank Mitra and the Branch Manager have since been arrested and are to be produced before the competent court in Lucknow.
The CBI has stated that the probe is ongoing. Further details, including whether additional bank officials or intermediaries are implicated, will be disclosed as the investigation progresses.
