He emphasised upon the constitutional values of liberty, equality and fraternity for ensuring the nation’s unity and progress, and said the Constitution’s learning should reach the village across the country.
CJI DY Chandrachud inaugurated a regional ‘Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman’ (Our Constitution, Our Honour), campaign at Maharaj Ganga Singh University’s auditorium in Bikaner to enhance awareness about the Indian Constiotutiton and citizens’ rights and duties, and the commemorate 75th year of India as a republic.Union Minister for Law & Justice Ram Meghwal also attended the event.
CJI said that our Constitution was created by our Constitution makers with continuous penance of almost three years. Justice, freedom, equality, democracy, secularism etc. are its senses. Every day, crores of dreams come true on the strength of merit in the fields of art, science, commerce, service, politics and governance. This is the gift of the Constitution due to which the dreams of crores of people are coming true.
It is the contribution of the Constitution that all people got a chance to dream. We all are present here today on the occasion of “Our Constitution, Our Respect” program. On this occasion we have to pay attention to some things. What is the meaning of the sentence “Our Constitution is our honor”? What is the importance of the Constitution in common people’s life? How is the Constitution important for our self-respect, dignity and civic concept? Today I have come among you all to talk to you on these topics.
He said in his address that the Constitution is important for any nation’s unity and progress. Elucidating this, he also quotesd Britain’s constitutional law expert, Sir Ivor Jennings, who said India’s constiotution is a lawyer’s paradise.
He said that after independence, the Indian Constitution faced many challenges. The challenge of taking along a society full of diversity, the challenge of keeping oneself relevant in the changed situation after partition and most importantly, the importance in the lives of the people. It was a challenge to maintain it. Our Constitution has been inspiring and guiding us for 75 years, overcoming all these challenges.
He also highlithed how even basic rights like the right to rastion, clean water, and health are derived from our constitution, he said that later is not only limited to books but also has its placefrom the Court’s corridors to villages. He asserted that our mission will remain incomplete until our constitution’s learning reaches our villages.
Regarding the progress made in the technology field, CJI said the Supreme Court of the country has worked to increase its capacity through technology. We had started using video conferencing for hearings in the court a few years ago.
A lawyer sitting in any corner of the country can be present and argue in the court hearing through video conferencing. I often see that some lawyers argue in the court using video conferencing on mobile only. The Supreme Court is translating its decisions into different languages of the country. In this the help of technology is being taken. Our aim is that whatever decisions are being given in the courts of the country, they should be delivered to the common people in their language.
In this way technology has connected the country with the feeling of justice. By making Artificial Intelligence user-friendly, we can bring both awareness and access to legal services to every home. “Our Constitution, Our Respect” – This campaign will run throughout this year.
He further stressed that now everyone can acess the court to see all the matters linked dto our basic rights. Further, talking about the social change that has happened due to this video conferencing, he said that women have started to argue their matters in increasing numbers.

CJI also said that today we have also started the “Nyaya Sahayak” program. Nyaya Sahayaks are community-based messengers who are tasked with creating door-to-door awareness on legal services and solutions offered by the Central Justice Department in several blocks and districts.
Along with this, students studying law should also come forward in the “Our Constitution, Our Respect” campaign.
Each student should take this campaign to ten people and motivate each of them to take it to ten more people. . Being the Chief Justice of India, it is my duty to assure even the last person in the queue that coming to the court is your duty It is a constitutional right.
Court decisions are becoming available in simple language. Efforts are also being made to make court decisions available to common citizens in maximum regional languages. We want to sensitize the district and taluka courts. Because this is the first ever step towards justice.
We are making many efforts to improve the condition of District and Taluka Courts and make changes in their buildings as per the modern era. Justice is human and sensitive. Today, it is a matter of happiness to see the increasing number and interest of girls in studying law.
CJI concluded his address by saying that we should aim for the core values of our constitution to bring meaningful change in our lives.
