Union Minister of State Independent Charge Arjun Ram Meghwal Assumes Responsibilities at The Ministry of Law and Justice

11, June 2024, New Delhi: Today in New Delhi, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Arjun Ram Meghwal, formally assumed his responsibilities at the Ministry of Law and Justice. In his address to the office bearers and staff, Meghwal underscored his commitment to serving the nation with dedication and integrity, echoing the vision set forth by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi ji. He emphasized the ministry’s pivotal role in realizing the aspiration of a developed India, encapsulated in the concept of Viksit Bharat.

Highlighting immediate priorities, Meghwal stressed the importance of generating awareness among the populace about the imminent implementation of three new criminal laws. Additionally, he reiterated the ministry’s dedication to ensuring swift dispensation of justice in the courts, prioritizing the needs of the people.

Born on December 20th, 1953, Meghwal boasts an illustrious academic and administrative background. A Post-Graduate in Political Science and a Law Graduate, he furthered his education by obtaining an MBA from the University of the Philippines. With a distinguished career as a retired IAS Officer from Rajasthan, Meghwal has been elected as a Member of Parliament for the Bikaner constituency in the Lok Sabha four consecutive times since 2009.

Prior to assuming his current role, Arjun Ram Meghwal has held several significant ministerial positions within the government. He served as the Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs from 2016 to 2017, followed by roles as the Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, and Parliamentary Affairs from 2017 to 2019. Subsequently, he took charge as the Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises and Parliamentary Affairs from 2019 to 2021. Shri Meghwal’s tenure also included serving as the Union Minister of State for Culture & Parliamentary Affairs from 2021 to 2023.

Known for his distinctive mode of commuting to Parliament on a bicycle, Shri Meghwal has garnered acclaim for his dedication and accessibility. His commitment to public service has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Sansad Ratna (received thrice) and the Sansad Maharatna award.
