Hyderabad, November 1, 2025:
The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC), headed by Dr. Justice Shameem Akther, Hon’ble Chairperson, has taken Suo motu cognizance of a distressing report published in SAKSHI Telugu Daily dated November 1, 2025, titled ధర్మవరం బీసీ హాస్టల్లో ఫుడ్ పాయిజన్ – 55 మంది విద్యార్థులకు అస్వస్థత (Food poisoning in Dharmavaram BC Hostel – 55 students fall ill).

According to the report, as many as 55 students of the BC Welfare Boys Hostel, Dharmavaram, in Jogulamba Gadwal District, reportedly fell ill after consuming dinner served at the hostel. The incident has raised serious concerns about the quality of food, hygiene standards, and overall supervision in government-run welfare hostels across the State.

Taking a serious view of the issue, the Commission observed that if the contents of the report are found to be true, it would reflect gross negligence in food safety protocols and dereliction of duty on the part of concerned authorities responsible for the wellbeing of hostel inmates.

Invoking its statutory powers, the Commission has directed the Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana, to conduct a detailed enquiry into the incident and to submit a comprehensive report to the Commission by November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The report is expected to include findings on the cause of the food contamination, accountability of officials, and remedial measures taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The TSHRC’s prompt intervention underscores its continued commitment to safeguarding the right to life, health, and dignity of students residing in State-run welfare institution
