Harilal Ramavath, student of Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential School, Balanagar,
created a unique record by being the first student from the state of Telangana to secure
admission into National Sports University, Imphal, Manipur. He came out with flying
colors in a national level entrance conducted by the university and clinched all-India 3 rd
rank. Son of a handicapped father from a tribal hamlet in Nagarkurnool district, Harilal
always dreamed of becoming an athlete of national and international repute. Harilal’s
mother works as a labourer to make both ends meet. Despite his grim family
background, Harilal never lost hope and worked doubly hard to make it to the
prestigious sports university. “My goal is to secure an olympic gold medal in athletics
and make the Indian nation and the state of Telangana proud” says Harilal beaming
with pride and confidence.
Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TTWREIS, congratulated Harilal for his remarkable
feat and said, “for the first time in the history of public education sector in India,
Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS)
established sports academies and created infrastructure to groom budding sports stars
into national and international medalists and the entire credit goes to the Government of
Telangana.
Dr Praveen Kumar further said, “the launch of sports academies like judo, karate,
cricket, horse riding, wrestling, chess, athletics, boxing, shooting, swimming, water
sports, etc., have been major transformative steps in cultivating a new generation of
sports persons from marginalized background, while thanking the Chief Minister K.
Chandrasekhar Rao and Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar. Few years down the line,
we would see students from tribal welfare residential educational institutions from
Telangana state making their inedible mark in the field of sports at national and
international level, Dr Kumar said
