CJI Says to Students and Citizens Stranded in Various Countries Amid
COVID-19.
The Supreme Court today observed that the Indian Students and Citizens stranded in Carious countries cannot be brought back right now.
The Bench of CJI SABobde with Justices L.Nageshwara Rao and Moham M Shantanagoudar took up the various petitions regarding evacuation of stranded Indian citizens from foreign jurisdictions for hearing via video conferencing today.
The Apex Court while hearing all petitions seeking evacuation of Indian Citizens stranded abroad. Unskilled workers and fishermen in UK,Iran and Other Countries.
The Court had adjourned those pleas for four weeks.
The Apex Court also said that the affected persons may make a representation before the Centre and the government must take necessary action for the safety of Indians in foreign jurisdictions right now.
The Court observed that “people should stay where they are right now.” And added that it may not be possible to bring back all the Indian Citizens under the present circumstances. This remark was made by the court while hearing a petition for repatriation of a student in the UK, who according to the centre’s affidavit is now safe.”
A total of seven petitions seeking directions from the court on the immediate evacuation of Indian nationals from UK, US, Iran and Gulf Countries were taken up simultaneously.
The court has fixed the date for hearing these pleas on Monday, April 20.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that the Ministry of External Affairs of India all over the world has started extending the visas of all stranded citizen amid pandemic, bringing back Indian right now would not be possible and the same has been submitted in the Centre’s affidavit filed.
All the relevant petitions including that of MP from Kozhikode MK Raghavan for evacuating stranded citizens from GCC nations stands adjourned for four weeks.
