Seven to Ten Years Rigorous Imprisonment to Two Then Officials of Postal Department In A CBI Case

The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Ghaziabad(Uttar Pradesh) has sentenced Shri Kanhaiya Lal, then Assistant Post Master to undergo 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.3.50 Lakh and Shri Adesh Kumar, then Postal Assistant to undergo 07 years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.One Lakh.
CBI had registered a case on 02.11.2007 on a complaint of Senior Supdt of Post Offices, Saharanpur alleging that during the year 2005-2006, the accused including agent, Assistant Post Master, Postal Assistant of Head Post Office, Saharanpur entered a conspiracy and fraudulently misappropriated an amount of Rs.6,24,000/- which was to be deposited in the PPF accounts of 13 account holders maintained at Head Post Office, Saharanpur. It was alleged that the Postal Assistant had given the deposit receipts & concealed the forged entry and the Assistant Post Master made initials on the receipt of deposit & fake pass book entries in most of the cases though knowing well that such amounts were not taken into government records. It was further alleged that both the accused countersigned fake deposit receipts & pass book entries to deceive the account holders and facilitated the misappropriation of an amount of Rs.6,24,000/- in respect of 13 PPF accounts maintained at Head Post Office, Saharanpur.
After investigation, a chargesheet was filed on 31.12.2008 against the accused. Charges were framed on 18.02.2010.
The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them.
