SCBA Condemns Lathi Charge Against Lawyers in Ghaziabad, Demands Inquiry into District Judge’s Conduct
(Judicial Quest News Network)
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has passed a resolution condemning the recent violent lathi charge against lawyers at the Ghaziabad District Court in Uttar Pradesh, calling for an immediate inquiry into the actions of District and Sessions Judge Anil Kumar. The SCBA asserts that such violence undermines the dignity of the legal profession and has demanded swift action from both the Allahabad High Court and the Uttar Pradesh government.
The incident, which occurred under Judge Kumar’s direction, has prompted the SCBA to make several key demands. These include a thorough investigation led by a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court, overseen by the Chief Justice, to examine the conduct of Judge Kumar and hold accountable any police officers involved. They are also calling for the dismissal of Judge Kumar and the responsible police personnel, compensation for the injured lawyers, and the introduction of an Advocates Protection Act to shield legal professionals and their families from such brutality.
Additionally, the SCBA urges the Bar Council of India and state bar councils to take proactive steps to ensure that lawyers can perform their duties without harassment or fear of violence. Standing in solidarity with the advocates of Ghaziabad, the SCBA pledges to use its influence to ensure justice is served and the rule of law is upheld.
