SCAORA Urges CJI to Publish Hearing Sequence in Advance, Raises Concerns Over Pass-Over Denials
(Judicial Quest News Network)
The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) has written to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, urging that the hearing sequence be published in the Supplementary Cause List a day in advance rather than only on the hearing day. This move is intended to provide much-needed clarity for advocates, especially those managing multiple cases or dealing with senior and elderly members of the bar.
SCAORA expressed concern over certain benches denying pass-overs in the first round, calling it a significant challenge for advocates. The current practice of revealing the hearing sequence only after 10:30 a.m. on the day of the hearing is creating enormous difficulties, particularly for those less technically adept or unable to attend hearings due to timing constraints.
In the letter, SCAORA’s Honorary Secretary, Nikhil Jain, emphasized the importance of knowing the order of hearings a day in advance to help advocates better plan their schedules. The association has also requested that at least one pass-over be granted during hearings to accommodate these challenges.
