[Russia-Ukraine Conflict] Centre Assures To Consider Issue of Further Education of Evacuated Students From Ukraine: AG Informs Apex Court

The Apex Court on Monday, while disposing of a plea seeking the evacuation as well as further studies of the stranded students from war-hit Ukraine took note of the Central Government that it is looking the aspect of how to ensure that the education of students is not hampered.

It was submitted in the plea that all the all the Air spaces are shut down in the Ukraine and there is no hope for Indian students to escape that war land. There are thousands of Indian Medical Students studying in Ukraine and their future has been gone in dark because of their studies and degrees are at stake.

The plea had also sought that the MBBS degree of the Indian students must be recognised in India.The petition was filed on behalf of a student Fathima Ahan and aPIL filed by Advocate Vishal Tiwari.

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Justice Krishna Murari also took note of the submission by the Central government that it is looking into the aaspect of how to ensure that education of students is not hampered.

During the hearing today the bench at the outset observed that nothing remains in the present matter.

When Attorney General KK Venugopal assured that government is looking into the matter, thus nothing survives into the pleaand plea is accordingly disposed of”

The petitioner-in-person Visha Tiwari submitted that  

The petition has stated that the students from every state of our nation are trapped in war-hit Ukraine and their families are crying and looking for the hope towards the government.

“The government has responsibility to protect the life and liberty of its Citizens Guarnteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India not only in its Geograhical boundries but also, es[ecially when the Citizens are helplessand all mode or transports are shutdown. Government has to take and adopt several Diplomatic measures” the plea states.

Something has to be done for their education, their career cannot be hampered and it may (be allowed to) continue in our country.

The plea filed by student Fathima Ahana studying in National Medical University in Odessa,Ukraine, seeking protection for herself and other stranded students (250 in number) during the present Russia and Ukraine conflict.

The petition has sought directions to the respondents to secure permission to cross the check point in Moldava from Ukraine enroute to Romania for boarding the Air India evacuation flight, and to immediately take effective diplomatic steps and measures for evacuation of the petitioner and other stranded students from Ukraine to India.

This petition was filed by Senior Advocate Abu Majid Dar,Advocate Danish Majid Dar and Advocate abhay anand Jena.
