Delhi,22, December,2025-A petition has been instituted before the Supreme Court assailing the conferment and continuance of State-sponsored ceremonial honours and symbolic recognition upon the Islamic scholar and mystic Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and/or the Ajmer Dargah by the Union of India and its instrumentalities.

“It is submitted that the practice of the Prime Minister of India offering a chadar at the Ajmer Dargah of Moinuddin Chishti, initiated by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947 and continued since, has no legal or constitutional basis. Historical records indicate that Moinuddin Chishti was associated with foreign invasions that conquered Delhi and Ajmer and caused mass subjugation and conversions of the native population, actions fundamentally contrary to India’s sovereignty, dignity, and civilizational ethos. Extending ceremonial homage to such a figure undermines the values enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution, including justice, liberty, equality, and national integrity, and disregards the will of the people.”

The petition further prays for an interim stay on the proposed offering of a chadar by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

The matter was brought to the notice of a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi today however, the bench declined to list the case for urgent hearing.

The petitioners were directed to approach the Registry for further proceedings in accordance with established judicial protocol.

The petitioners, namely Jitender Singh and Vishnu Gupta, who hold the offices of President of Vishwa Vedic Sanathan and Hindu Sena respectively, have approached Supreme Court being aggrieved by the continued practice of state‑sponsored ceremonial honours, official patronage, and symbolic recognition, which they contend is violative of constitutional principles and inimical to the secular character of the State.

The petition has been drawn by Advocate Barun Kumar Sinha and filed through AoR Anantha Narayan MG

The petitioners submitted in their seeks in their prayer to declare that there exists no constitutional or statutory sanction authorising the Respondent authorities to extend any special ceremonial homage, State recognition or symbolic patronage to the said Dargah or to Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti
