PJTSAU Ranked No. 1 Agricultural University in South India

The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has been
ranked No. 1 Agricultural University in South India and the 6 th best in the country for the
year 2018, as per the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Ranking released
by the Hon’ble Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar on the ICAR Foundation
Day in Delhi celebrated on 16 th July 2019. The ranking is based on performance across
33 parameters pertaining to teaching, research and extension excellence. Competing
with 74 Agricultural Universities, Deemed Universities & Central Agricultural Universities.
PJTSAU showed a remarkable improvement over the 12 th rank achieved in 2016 to the
6 th rank in 2018.
“We are delighted to have improved upon our ranking this year, but we have to work
harder. PJTSAU will increase its efforts to ensure that it is recognised as a top institution
not only in India, but also internationally, for its quality of teaching and research. Our aim
is to produce globally competitive technical manpower in agricultural sciences who are
socially and environmentally responsible” said Prof Praveen Rao Velchala, Vice
Chancellor, PJTSAU.
Established in 2014, PJTSAU, the youngest agri – University in the country has emerged as
a prominent centre for agricultural education and research. With three faculties – Agriculture,
Agricultural Engineering & Technology and Community Science and more than 22 different
departments and centres organised in 9 schools of study, the university is a second home to
more than 500 faculty and 5,000 students. 
PJTSAU is proud of its conscious and committed faculty and administrative staff, latest
teaching methodologies, contemporary NABL accredited laboratories, digitally enabled
libraries, instructional farms, excellent placement record, best industry collaboration,
recreational facilities, well designed and maintained buildings, spacious student residential
complexes with nutritious food facility. Experiential learning is paramount at PJTSAU.
Projects are not additional activities nor are they just mandatory requirements. They are a
way of life, a constant day-to-day learning endeavor at PJTSAU. Giving wings to their
imagination the students have so far done various innovative projects which are helpful for

both the colleges and society. Many of the research projects received appreciation at the
state and national level. PJTSAU acknowledges with gratitude the liberal financial support
and continuous encouragement provided by the Hon’ble Governor, Hon’ble Chief minister,
Agriculture Minister , Government of Telangana and Director General, ICAR.
