Opposition MPs Write to President, AG for Action Against Social Media Trolling of CJI Chandrachud

New Delhi March17, 2023: In a Signifcant development the Congress MP (Rajya Sabha), Mr.Vivek Tankha and 13 other opposition MPs has written separate letters to President Droupadi Murmu requesting immediate action against the online trolling of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
It is pertinent to mention here that high-stake proceedings in Supreme Court on Maharashtra government formation issue, sought immediate action against the trolls and the forces behind them.
The letter written by MR.Tankha was supported by several opposition MPs , including Congress ‘Dig Vijay Singh, Pramod Tiwari, Shaktisin Gohli, Akhileh Prakash Singh, Amee Yajnik Ranjeet Ranjan, Imran Pratapgarhi, Shiv Sena (UBT)’S Priyanka Chaturvedi, AAP’s Raghava Chadha ,SP’sRam Gopal Yadav and Jaya Bachan.
A copy of the complaint has also been sent to Minister of Law, Minister of IT and Police Commissioner of Delhi. In a similar complaint to the Attorney General of India, Tankha has demanded strict action against those accused of trolling.
The letter further said that “we all know that a constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud sis hearing the matter of government formation in Maharashtra and the Role of Governor.
Maharashtra’s Uddhav Thackrey government fell in June last year. In fact, 35 shiv sena MLAs rebelled under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, after which the Governor ordered a floor test to prove the Uddhav government as the majority. At that time Uddhav Thackrey’s Shiv Sena had also reached the Supreme Court against the Governor’s order, but no relief was received.
That led Uddhav to resign. A floor test was held in the Vidhansabha and the Uddhav faction could not prove its majority. After that Eknaht Shinde formed the Government in the state along with the BJP. Shiv Sena Name and Symbol had also been snatched from Uddha Thackrey.Now Eknath Shinde has the name and Symbol of the party.
While the matter is still sub-judcie, the troll army supporting the Maharashtra Government has launched a campaign against the CJI. This is Condemnable. Millions of people have seen it on social media platforms.
It is further submitted that in a matter which is sub-judice and is seisin before the Supreme Court, such despicable conduct is only possible if such people enjoy the support of the ruling dispensation. Your Excellency and the Constitutional and statutory authorities in India are Duty bound to protect the dignity and decorum of the Indian Judiciary.
They termed it as a brazen case of interference with the course of justice. We expect immediate action not only against people behind it, i.e., supporting and sponsoring it.
Addressing a separate letter and expressing anguish to the Attorney general of India R.Venkatramani. it is submitted that being the first law officer of the country, it is your beholden duty as the protector of law and Constitution on behalf of the Union of India to take the following prompt and strict actions:
