NLU ODHISA Students on indefinite Strike

Students of National Law University (NLU Odhisa) have launched an indefinite stir pressing for fulfillment of variety of issues.
The students staged a demonstration holding placards and shouting slogans against the management of the university.
They blamed the authorities that a number of issues pertaining to the health and welfare of the students have been brought into the notice but they failed to act upon and solve the matter.
The demands include construction of a world-class library, Campus placements and renovation of Girls hostel.
Speaking to Judicial Quest a source said that issues cited have been plaguing the NLU for years.
A list of demands issued by the students include following.
1. A specific and time bound action in respect of construction and completion of work for women’s hostel
It is stated that female in-mates have been forced to live in half-constructed, fungus-infected and water logged hostel buildings.
2. Unexplained hike of Fee with each upcoming batch
The administration has failed to give any logical explanation for hiking the fee for the incoming batch by Rs 30.000.This would effectively take the total fee payable for the academic year to Rs.2 Lakhs.
3. Complete the Construction of the University Library.
Presently a make-Shift library operates out of two or three rooms. The management had long ago promised a separate world-class library. It is stated that construction of the library had been stalled for some years citing the reasons of lack of funds. Some rumors rounds that construction was stopped for legal dispute.
4. Remove Hostel Curfew. It is stated that university had promised to lift the hostel-in times if the parents of 50% of the students gave signed consent for the same.
The students also slammed the authorities for its lethargic attitude in carrying out development work of basic infrastructures in the law university. The students threaten to continue their protest until their demands are not fulfilled.
The students body have said that they may face many other problems which the administration has turned a turned a blind eye to.
The protesting students have put forward the following demands.
1. Make Girls Hostel-2 habitable
2. Establishment of a full time dispensary and availibilty of a full time Nurse.
3. Final deadline for the construction of the library.
4. Removal of Hostel curfew timings
5. Infrastructure repairs and improvements.
6. Faculty evaluation results and appointments.
7. Rationale behind the hike of the fee for the incoming batch.
