Gurugram, Haryana | 24th January 2025 – The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken serious cognisance of a shocking incident involving the electrocution death of a lineman from the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) in Sikanderpur Badha, Gurugram. The tragic accident occurred on 21st January 2025, when the lineman was working on an electricity transformer and was electrocuted after the electricity supply was resumed while he was still on the job.

In response to the media reports of the incident, the NHRC has issued formal notices to both the Chairman of DHBVN and the Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, demanding a detailed investigation and report within two weeks. The report is expected to shed light on the status of the FIR filed in connection with the incident, and any compensation that may have been provided to the deceased’s family.

The Commission has expressed grave concern over the possible violation of human rights if the reports are indeed accurate. The incident has raised questions about safety protocols, particularly regarding the handling of electricity lines and the resumption of power while workers are still in the field.

Family members of the deceased lineman have reportedly accused DHBVN of gross negligence, claiming that the electricity department failed to follow proper safety procedures, which ultimately led to the fatal electrocution.

The NHRC’s intervention underscores the urgent need for accountability in the case, and the Commission’s demand for an investigation highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of workers, especially those involved in high-risk tasks like power maintenance.
