NALSAR awarded top-rated Law University, Reveals VC. Prof. Faizan Mustafa

Prof. Faizan Mustafa Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR, who presented the Annual Report of the University, has revealed that the National Assessment and Accreditation (NAAC) gave NALSAR, a score of 3.60 on a scale of 4 which is the highest NAAC score by any National Law University in India. Based on this score University Grants Commission (UGC) designated NALSAR as a category 1 University in 2018.
This has given considerable autonomy in matters such as faculty hiring and development as well as the launch of newer courses.
Eminent historian and public intellectual Sri Ram Chandra Guha delivered the Convocation Address as Chief Guest he spoke about how we should think about the issue of equality in India and expressed his concerns about the historically entrenched form of inequalities in our Society. In an enlightening and thought provoking speech, Mr. Guha said that India Needs to approach this question in three way ‘Equality before God’, ‘Equality Before Law’, ‘Equality in Social Practices’, He invoked a quotation from Gopal Krishna Gokhale dating back to the early 1900s where it was said that while we can touch dogs, cats or any other animal, but it is the touch of a human being whose heart beats just like our own heart and whose brain works just like own brain. We get polluted. This kind of discrimination must end.
The noted historian also paid tribute to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi who had participated in social movements to ensure Temple-Entry for Dalits in the 1920s and 1930s.
He also emphasized upon the gender equality and remarked that hopefully we will have more female Vice-Chancellors being appointed to lead our Universities in future.
Mr. Guha expressed his satisfaction over the quality of publication that has come out of the University.
Shri K.K Venugopal Attorney General of India who was conferred LL.D (Honoris Causa) of the University in his acceptance speech, also appreciated the quality of legal education at NALSAR and expressed the hope that NALSAR students would meaningfully contribute to the nation building efforts.
Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University in his parting advice to the students asked them to have empathy for the people who have been subjected to injustices.
He also urged the graduating students to celebrate India’s pluralism.
Hon’ble Shri Justice Ragahvendra S. Chauhan, Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana & Hon’ble Chancellor NALSAR presided over the conferral of the degrees and diplomas to the graduating students.
Ms. Sadhika Gulathi secured the highest number of 15 gold medals out of 49gold medals awarded this year to the students of B.A. LL.B (Hons), LL.M., M.B.A., and PG diploma in Cyber Law courses taken together. Four Gold Medals have been awarded to Ms. Neha Shivare and Mr.Micheal Mathew. Ms. R. Lakshana and Mr. Shailender Reddy have been awarded with three gold medals each.
A total of 380 degrees and diplomas awarded to the Graduating students of NALSAR this year.
