Nagarkurnool Tragedy: Telangana Human Rights Commission’s Intervention Signals Possible Legal Action

Hyderabad,5, February-2026- The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), headed by its Chairperson Justice Shameem Akther, has taken cognizance of a complaint submitted by representatives of the BC, SC, ST–JAC concerning the alleged murder of a two-month-old infant and the assault on members of a Dalit family at Kummera village in Nagarkurnool District, Telangana.
According to the complaint, certain individuals allegedly subjected the family to caste-based abuse and physical assault.
The complainants have further alleged that the local police failed to register appropriate offences and did not take timely action to arrest the accused.
Taking serious note of the allegations, the Commission has directed the Telangana Police through the Director General of Police to submit a comprehensive report detailing the incident and the action taken by the concerned police authorities.
The Commission has sought the report by 24 March 2026 for further examination and appropriate proceedings.
