MHA Steps Up Legal Action, Assigns Shri Singh as Special Public Prosecutor in Pahalgam Case

Delhi, 30, October,2025 – The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Delhi-based criminal lawyer Shri Singh as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) to conduct the trial related to the Pahalgam terror attack case. The official notification was issued on October 28. Shri Singh will represent the National Investigation Agency (NIA) before the NIA Special Court, Jammu & Kashmir High Court, and the courts in Ladakh for a period of three years.
This appointment comes as the Jammu court granted the NIA a 45-day extension on September 18 to complete its investigation into the case. The extension period is set to expire this week, and the chargesheet is expected to be filed soon.
The Pahalgam terror attack, which took place on April 22, targeted tourists and a pony operator and is regarded as one of the most shocking incidents in Jammu & Kashmir in recent years. The trial led by Shri Singh as SPP aims to ensure swift and meticulous prosecution of the accused.
