Medical Colleges have greater responsibility during Covid-19: Telangana Governor

Hyderabad, June 29: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has exhorted the functionaries of the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to intensively take up awareness programmes benefiting the people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said that medical professionals have a commitment to serve the people and the medical colleges need to rise to the occasion to create better awareness so as to help the people prevent the spread of covid-19.

The Governor was reviewing with the functionaries of the university about its performance through a video conference from the Raj Bhavan, here, on Monday.

Referring to the commendable service that the doctor’s fraternity is doing in the fight against the pandemic, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan advised the university functionaries to take better care of the doctors and paramedical staff as they were in the forefront of the fight against the pandemic.

“Maintaining better morale of the doctors is vital as they are shouldering greater responsibility. The patients and doctor need to feel that they are being looked after well,” she added.

Pointing out the fact that there were only 4,790 MBBS seats, including those in the minority colleges in the State, the Governor called for efforts to get permissions for increased seats so as to make the medical education accessible to a greater number of students in tune with the population ratio.

Emphasizing on the importance of increased research in viral outbreaks, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan advised the university to promote the better research by the researchers and practitioners.

She asked the university of health sciences to create and maintain a data base of research activities and the papers presentations by the teachers and students.

“We all must strive together to improve our universities’ ranking at the national and international ranking and offer quality higher education in general and medical education in particular,” the Governor added.
