Manipur Violence : Kerala Opposition Leader Satheesan Writes to PM Urging To Intervene And Ensure Safety of Malyalees Stranded In Manipur

Thiruvananthapuram : (8, May 2023), Leader of opposition in the State Assembly of Kerala V D Satheesan Has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing anguish over the tragic events of vandalism against churches and persecution of members of the Christian community in strife-torn Manipur.
It is unfortunate that the State Government and Union Government, which are legally obligated to protect fundamental rights, including the Right to life and religious freedom, have become quiet spectators. It’s heart-breaking to see our Christian brothers and sisters being persecuted in the name of religion in Manipur.
In the letter Satheesan also raised concern about events of vandalism of Christian churches and persecution of members of the Christian community in the state of Manipur. I request your good self to ensure the safety of the Malayalees who are stranded state of Kerala safely.
Further it was contended that The State, which was peacefully ruled by Congress, has now been transformed into a hotbed of intense sectarian conflict. Many people have died, and many more have fled to other states been ransacked and set ablaze in places like Checkon, New Lambulane, Sangaiprou, and Game Village.
“There is extreme communal tension and insecurity among the Christian population in the state. It has been learned that the violence is spreading to other parts of the country and would need the urgent intervention of the concerned governments to curb its spread” states the letter.
