Following a meeting held on May 23, 2025, with the Hon’ble Committee to Take Up the Matter with the Government for Providing Infrastructure for District Judiciary, a proposal was formulated to improve the engagement and remuneration of Law Researchers. The proposals, prepared by the Law Department, were presented to the Hon’ble Council of Ministers for approval.
Key approvals granted by the Cabinet on September 3, 2025, include:
Permanent approval of the Scheme for engaging Law Researchers in the High Court of Delhi, originally framed in 2018 and periodically updated.
Increase in the number of Law Researchers from three to four per Hon’ble Judge, enhancing research support for judicial officers.
Enhancement of monthly remuneration from Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 80,000, effective September 2, 2025, reflecting a commitment to recognize and reward their vital contributions.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently confirmed that the proposed hike will be officially implemented, stating during a public address just a few days ago that the government is committed to ensuring its swift execution
These decisions aim to boost judicial efficiency by ensuring adequate staffing and fair compensation for Law Researchers. The approvals were granted with the prior consent of the Principal Secretary (Law), reinforcing the government’s dedication to supporting the justice system through improved infrastructure and human resources.
This development is expected to positively impact the functioning of the Delhi High Court by providing judges with greater legal research assistance and motivating Law Researchers through better remuneration and permanency in their roles.
