Maintain Dignity of Profession: Trivandrum Bar Association Issues Notice to Junior Lawyers Expressing Concern About Their Dress Code Violations

The Trivandrum Bar Association issued a notice Expressing concerns about junior lawyer’s dress code violations which is disrespectful of the lawyer’s dress code.
The notice warned the Junior Lawyers seeking a change in their indifferent attitude and disrespectful behaviour and warned of disciplinary action against them.
The notice explained that the Trivandrum Bar Association has been receiving complaints regarding the casual conduct and attire of junior lawyers.
Several complaints regarding the indifferent attitude of certain junior members of the Bar are being received at the office continuously, relating to the disrespectful behaviour shown to the Senior lawyers and casual dressing manner and submissions before the courts.
It is also clearly mentioned in the notice that the Association has noticed many junior lawyers wearing calf-length trousers and sleeveless blouses, which is disrespectful of the dress code expected of lawyers.
The notice urge the senior lawyers of the Bar to advise junior lawyers to amend their ways, failing which the association may be forced to take disciplinary action.
Last month the Kerala High Court Advocate Association had issued a notice urging law interns and junior lawyers to stick to the dress code prescribed by the Bar Council of India and High Court and to maintain the decorum of the court.
The KHCAA had further submitted that it nay be due the shifting of the court proceedings to virtual mode during the pandemic that freshly enrolled junior advocates and law interns have been unable to get accustomed to the etiquette and decorum to be maintained in the Courts.
