Life Imprisonment for Accused in Brutal Police Assault Case – Jagadgirigutta PS

Hyderabad,11, February,2025. In a landmark judgment, the Hon’ble IX Additional District & Sessions Judge, Smt. Harisha, of LB Nagar, Ranga Reddy District, has sentenced 19-year-old Sardar Chamkorthi, also known as Karan Singh, to life imprisonment for his brutal attack on two police constables. Along with the life sentence, the accused was also fined ₹15,000 for his violent actions in an attempted murder case under Cr.No. 16/2023 registered at Jagadgirigutta Police Station, Cyberabad Commissionerate.

The Incident: A Violent Assault on Police Officers

The harrowing incident unfolded on January 5, 2023, when police constables, Raju Naik and Vijay, were on duty searching for Karan Singh, a suspect in a murder case under Cr.No. 22/2023 at Narsingi Police Station. While conducting their search in the Sikh Colony area of Yellammabanda, the officers located the accused. Without warning, Singh violently attacked both constables with a sharp knife, causing severe bleeding injuries to the officers.

The swift and brutal assault left the police constables in critical condition, but they were quickly rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the accused was promptly arrested by the police, ending his violent rampage. The incident led to the registration of a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter a public servant from their duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as Section 25(1B) (b) of the Arms Act, 1959.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The police wasted no time in investigating the case, quickly identifying the severity of the assault on law enforcement. Karan Singh was arrested later that night, at 11:45 PM on January 5, 2023, and brought before the court. After a detailed investigation, a charge sheet was filed, and the case was committed to trial under Sessions Case No. 762/2023.

Throughout the trial, the court heard testimonies from multiple witnesses and carefully evaluated the evidence presented. Despite the accused’s attempt to defend his actions, the Hon’ble Court found him guilty of the charges. In delivering the judgment, Judge Smt. Harisha stated that the accused’s violent attack on the police officers in the line of duty could not go unpunished.

The Verdict

After a thorough trial, Karan Singh was convicted of attempted murder and the assault on police constables. The court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for life, in addition to a fine of ₹15,000, highlighting the gravity of his actions and the need to send a strong message against such violent acts.

This judgment stands as a significant milestone in ensuring justice for law enforcement personnel who risk their lives daily to maintain order and protect citizens.
