Justice SA Bobde Sworn in as 47th Chief Justice of India, Succeeds Gogoi

Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, the senior- most Judge of the Supreme Court, was on Monday Sworn in as the 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI)
In a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today.
He was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Immediately after the ceremony, Justice Bobde went to touch his mother’s feet, who was present at the ceremony.
Chief Justice Bobde has been part of several important cases, including the five-judge constitution bench that delivered the historic judgement on Ayodhya land dispute case.
Chief Justice Bobde was also part of nine-judge bench headed by the then Chief Justice JS Kher which, in a unanimous judgment in August 2017, held that Right to privacy was a constitutionally protected fundamental right in India.

Shri Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, B.A., LL.B., was born on April 24, 1956. He was enrolled as an Advocate on September 13, 1978. He started his practice at the High Court Bench at Nagpur and the District Court at Nagpur and occasionally, at the High Court at Bombay and the Supreme Court of India in civil, constitutional, labour, company, election and taxation matters. He specialized in constitutional, administrative, company, environmental and election laws. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 29, 2000 and a Permanent Judge on March 28, 2002. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on October 16, 2012. He was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on April 12, 2013.
Sixty- three year old Justice Bobde would have tenure of about 17 months till April 23, 2021 as the CJI.
