Justice BP Dhramadhikari Appointed as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court

The Collegium of Supreme Court has appointed Justice BP Dharmadhikari as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.

In a meeting held on February 24,2020, the Supreme court Collegium has recommended elevation of Justice BP Dharmadhikari, acting chief Justice of the Bombay High Court as Chief Justice of that Court.

Earlier he was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court Yesterday, after a notification in that behalf was issued by the Central government.

Justice BP Dharmadhikari  will replace Justice Pradeep Nandrajog, who retired as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on February 23 as per the High Court Website.

Shri Justice Bhushan Pradyumna Dharmadhikari, B.Sc., B.A., LL.B. was born on April, 28 1958. He was enrolled as an Advocate on October 17, 1980. He practised for 23 years in the High Court in Civil, Constitutional, Labour and Service matters and specialises in Labour and Service matters. He was Secretary of the Vidarbha Labour Law Associatio.; He represented Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, Zila Parishad, Nagpur, City Industrial and Development Corporation and few Municipal Councils in Maharashtra. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 15, 2004 and appointed as a permanent Judge on March 12, 2006.

Justice Dhrmadhikari obtained his degree from the Nagpur University, presently known as Rashtra Sant Tukdoji Maharaja University, in the year 1980 and began his practice at Nagpur. Later he joined the chambers of Advocate YS Dharmadhikari at Jabalpur for a brief period and then came back to Nagpur and worked Under Advocates HS Ghare till 1984.According to the information available on High Court’s website “He practiced Law at Nagpur since October 1980 after his enrollment with Bar Council of Maharashtra on 17.10.1980 vide no.1341/17.10.1980. After obtaining LL.B. he joined chambers of Advocate Y. S. Dharmadhikari at Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), for brief period and then came back to Nagpur and worked under Advocate H.S. Ghare till 1984. He started independently after Shri Ghare became City Civil Judge. He appeared for several Government Corporations, Industries, Employers, Unions and Private clients in all Courts viz. Labour Court, Industrial Court, Civil and Criminal Courts, High Court, Central and State Administrative Tribunals, Co-operative Court, Revenue Authorities.

He was elected unopposed as Secretary V.L.L.P.A. for 4 years and unopposed Library In-Charge High Court Bar Association for 3 years. He was elected as Treasurer H.C.B.A. for subsequent 3 years. He has been Guest Lecturer at Judicial Officers Training Institute, Nagpur since 1997. He has been elevated as Additional Judge on 15.03.2004 and as Judge on 12.03.2006.”
