The three-member House committee, formed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, began its investigation into the allegations surrounding the recovery of cash from the residence of Justice Yashwant Verma. The committee, tasked with probing the incident, visited Justice Verma’s residence at around 1:00 p.m. today, spending approximately 45 minutes at the location as part of their investigation.

The committee includes Justice Sheel Nagu Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice GS Sandhawalia of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Justice Anu Shivaraman Judge of the Karnataka High Court. The probe follows a significant incident on March 14, where a fire at Justice Verma’s house inadvertently led to the discovery of a large sum of cash by firefighters.

At the time of the fire, Justice Verma his wife was away, traveling in Madhya Pradesh, and only his daughter and elderly mother were present at the house. This discovery has sparked allegations of corruption against the judge, though Justice Verma has strongly denied the accusations, claiming it is a conspiracy to frame him.

In response to the incident, the Chief Justice of India CJI launched an inquiry into the allegations. The In-House committee, which was appointed on March 22, is now conducting an independent probe into the matter.

A video of the cash recovery, which was reportedly shared by the Delhi Police Commissioner with the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, has since been made public on the Supreme Court’s official website. The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, along with Justice Verma, has also provided a report addressing the incident.
