(Judicial Quest News Network)
Hyderabad,31, January,2025. In a bold move to enhance the safety and security of Hyderabad’s roads, the Hyderabad Traffic Police is set to launch a comprehensive enforcement drive starting on February 7, 2025. This initiative targets illegal vehicle modifications that pose significant risks to public safety and disrupt the flow of traffic. The special drive will focus on three main violations: the use of tinted glass/black films, sirens, and multi-toned or musical horns.
Despite existing legal prohibitions, many motorists continue to engage in these unsafe practices, causing confusion, panic, and even contributing to road accidents. The use of black films and tinted windows not only impairs the visibility of drivers and pedestrians, but it has also been linked to criminal activity, making it a significant concern for law enforcement.
Tackling Sirens & Musical Horns: A Key Focus
The Hyderabad Traffic Police is also cracking down on the unauthorized use of sirens and multi-toned or musical horns. These devices are not only a nuisance but also a safety hazard, particularly in emergency situations. According to Rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicles (CMV) Rules, 1989, and Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the use of sirens and non-standard horns is strictly prohibited.
Drivers caught violating this regulation will face fines starting at Rs. 1,000 for a first-time offense and Rs. 2,000 for any subsequent violations. These penalties aim to deter drivers from disturbing the peace and creating potential hazards on the road.
Crackdown on Tinted Glass and Black Films
The use of tinted glass or black films continues to be a significant concern for Hyderabad Traffic Police. Under Rule 100 of the CMV Rules, 1989, and Sections 177 and 179(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, vehicle owners are prohibited from using dark tints that reduce the transparency of windows beyond legal limits. Specifically, the visual light transmission must not be less than 70% for front and rear windshields and 50% for side windows. Non-compliance with these standards will attract a penalty of Rs. 1,000.
Hyderabad Traffic Police is urging all vehicle owners to voluntarily remove tinted films or upgrade to legal alternatives to avoid fines and contribute to safer road conditions.
