Hyderabad Police Saves Teen Held Captive After Traveling 265 Km to Meet Online Acquaintance

In a dramatic turn of events, an 18-year-old engineering student who travelled 265 kilometres to meet an online friend found herself trapped in a hotel room in Hyderabad for 20 days. The student, who had initially connected with the accused through a social media platform, was rescued by the SHE Teams a Wing of Hyderabad Police on Saturday. The 19-year-old male suspect has been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at Narayanaguda Police Station.
The young woman had been coerced and threatened by the accused, who forced her to come to Hyderabad under false pretences. During her captivity, she managed to send her location to her parents through an instant messaging app, alerting them to her dire situation. Distressed by their daughter’s plight, the parents lodged a complaint with the SHE Teams Hyderabad, prompting a swift response from the authorities.
Upon receiving the complaint, the SHE Teams, dedicated to tackling eve-teasers and stalkers, acted promptly. They located the girl, who was found locked in a hotel room at Narayanaguda, and successfully rescued her. She was safely returned to her family shortly thereafter.
The arrest of the accused and the successful rescue operation highlight the crucial role of the SHE Teams, a specialized unit of the Telangana Police, in ensuring the safety and security of women and girls.
