Hyderabad Police Lead Efforts in National Road Safety Month, Promoting Awareness & Safe Driving

Hyderabad,31, January, 2025. In alignment with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Government of India, the National Road Safety Month was observed from January 1 to January 30, 2025. The primary goal of this initiative was to raise awareness about the critical challenges of road safety and to sensitize citizens, especially road users, to the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and adopting safe driving practices.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police played a pivotal role in this campaign, demonstrating their commitment to creating safer roads and reducing the alarming rates of road accidents and fatalities in the city. In light of the growing concerns surrounding road safety, the Traffic Police have actively encouraged motorists and pedestrians to follow traffic rules and embrace responsible, defensive driving behaviours.
Over the course of the month, the Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a wide range of programs aimed at raising awareness among different sections of the community. These included targeted drives, educational sessions, and awareness campaigns. Here’s an overview of the various initiatives:
- Pedestrian Safety: 24 programs to educate pedestrians on safe crossing and walking practices.
- Awareness Against Honking in Silent Zones: 18 campaigns to reduce noise pollution and promote quiet zones.
- Traffic Awareness Sessions for RTC Depots: 12 sessions aimed at educating bus depot staff and commuters.
- Traffic Awareness at Auto Stands: 16 sessions for auto-rickshaw drivers and passengers.
- Clearing Footpaths for Pedestrians: 17 drives to ensure footpaths remain clear for safe walking.
- Campaign for Helmet Usage: 25 initiatives encouraging the use of helmets for two-wheeler riders.
- Special Drive Against Helmetless Riding: 30 enforcement drives to curb helmetless driving.
- Special Drive Against Free Left Blocking at Junctions: 28 campaigns to prevent obstruction at traffic junctions.
- Drive Against Drunk Driving & Counselling Violators: 27 special drives focusing on reducing drunk driving incidents and providing counseling to violators.
- Traffic Awareness for School/College Children: 30 sessions teaching young road users the importance of road safety.
- Sessions Against Rash Driving: 30 targeted programs to discourage rash driving and reckless behavior.
- Awareness on Stop Line Discipline & Signal Jumping: 26 sessions aimed at promoting discipline at traffic signals.
- Minor Driving Awareness: 24 programs highlighting the dangers of minors driving vehicles.
- Traffic Awareness for Heavy Vehicle Drivers: 23 sessions to enhance safety for heavy vehicle operators.
- Traffic Awareness for Cab Drivers: 26 sessions focusing on responsible driving among taxi drivers.
- Drive Against Triple Riding: 20 campaigns to discourage triple riding on two-wheelers.
In addition to these on-ground initiatives, the Hyderabad Traffic Police used social media platforms to extend their reach and spread important messages about road safety. Road safety posters on issues such as drunk driving, mobile phone use while driving, triple riding, helmet usage, and seat belt discipline were posted across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. These posts reached over 7,800 citizens, amplifying the impact of the awareness campaign.
The initiative was supported by senior officers including Sri C.V. Anand, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City; Sri P. Viswaprasad, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic; Sri Rahul Hegde, B.K., IPS, DCP Traffic-I; Sri N. Ashok Kumar, DCP Traffic-II; Sri R. Venkateshwarlu, IPS, DCP Traffic-III; and other members of the Traffic department, who actively participated in the various awareness sessions and special drives.
Through these collective efforts, the Hyderabad Traffic Police are making significant strides in fostering a culture of road safety and responsibility, working towards safer roads and a reduction in traffic-related incidents in the city.
