Humanity passing through the most critical times, I am pained to see the plight of the poor Citizens: Former SC Judge Justice Deepak Verma Contributes Rs.51 Lakh PM’ Relief Fund [Read Letter]

Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Deepak Verma has contributed a sum of Rupees Fifty-One Lakh to the Prime minister’s National Relief Fund, in view of the Coronavirus Crisis.

In view of the sudden and unprecedented outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic which has left thousands of Migrant workers homeless, foodless and shelter less after the announcement of a 21 day national lock down, Justice Verma expressed his concern in his letter addressing to the :Prime Minister “I am deeply pained to see the plight of thousands of labourers, who had gone to various parts of Bharath to earn their bread had to return to their respective villages, as they were rendered jobless with no Money with no transport available, many of them decided to have padh Yatra with their children and baggage on their  head and shoulders, travelling miles on foot.

 Justice Verma in his letter urged the PM that his “hard earned Money”be utilized for the welfare of those who are in urgent need of help.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Verma. Born on 28.08.1947 at Jabalpur.

He did schooling from Christ Church , Mahakaushal High School , Model High School and finally matriculation from Naveen Vidya Bhawan, Jabalpur.

After matriculation, he had taken admission in B.Sc. in Government Science College, Jabalpur, but later on changed from Science to Arts and did B.A. from St. Aloysius College, Jabalpur. He completed LL.B. from Jabalpur University.

He was enrolled as an Advocate in the year 1972. Practiced as such mainly on civil side till elevation in the year 1994 under his father late Shri R.P. Verma, who a great civil lawyer of his time.

He was Administrative Judge of Indore till August, 2005. Thereafter, continued as Administrative Judge, High Court of MP, Jabalpur.

He was additionally appointed as Welfare Commissioner, Bhopal Gas Victims to disburse the amount of compensation to the Gas Victims of Bhopal.

Almost all the victims have been awarded compensation during his tenure except for those who are not traceable despite notices.

He was transferred as Judge of the Karnataka High Court, Bangalore on 02.01.2008. He was senior most Judge there.

He was elevated as Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court on 04.03.2009. Took oath as the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court on 06.03.2009.

He was elevated as Judge, Supreme Court of India on 11.05.2009. He retired from as Judge of the Supreme Court in 2012.
