For Justice, For Peace: NALSA’s Landmark Mediation Journey to Start from July 1 A Pan- India Dispute Resolution movement

Delhi 26, June, 2025-Under the esteemed leadership of the CJI B R Gavai and Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India & Executive Chairman of both NALSA and MCPC, a transformative 90-day nationwide initiative titled MEDIATION ‘FOR THE NATION’ has been envisioned. The campaign will be held from 1st July to 30th September 2025, with the express objective of embracing mediation as a people-centric, efficient, and harmonious mechanism of dispute resolution.
This Pan-India Mediation Campaign aims to reduce the burden on the judiciary by resolving eligible pending cases amicably—from the grassroots of Taluka Courts up to the High Courts—while also promoting awareness about mediation’s benefits in every corner of the country.
Key Features of the Campaign Duration: 90 Days (1st July to 30th September 2025) Scope: Courts at all levels—Taluka to High Courts across India Eligible Case Categories: Matrimonial disputes, Accident claims, Domestic violence matters, Cheque bounce cases, Commercial disputes, Service matters
Compoundable criminal cases, Consumer disputes, Debt recovery, Partition and eviction cases, Land acquisition issues Other civil matters deemed appropriate for mediation
Identified cases will be specially listed from 1st July to 31st July 2025 under the heading “For Referral to the Special Mediation Drive.” If any scope for settlement is found, such matters will be promptly referred to mediation.
Operational Framework From 1st to 31st July 2025, courts will begin identifying suitable cases, notifying parties involved, and referring them to accredited mediators. Data transmission regarding the outcomes of mediated settlements will take place on 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th August and 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd September 2025. A comprehensive compilation of all referred and successfully mediated cases will be submitted to MCPC by 6th October 2025.
Inclusive Participation and Multi-Mode Mediation All trained mediators, including those recently certified through 40-hour training programs, will be mobilized. Mediation will occur across all seven days of the week, adapted to the convenience of the parties.
To ensure accessibility: Physical (offline) mediation will be held at court premises. Online and hybrid modes will be enabled, supported by Taluka and District Legal Services Authorities.
Each state’s High Court will oversee the campaign through its Mediation Monitoring Committee. Experts and counsellors may also be engaged to support settlement efforts when necessary.
Academic & Institutional Collaboration
An in-depth impact study of the campaign will be undertaken by the National Judicial Academy (NJA), Bhopal, in partnership with select National Law Universities (NLUs), ensuring that lessons and successes are studied and documented.
Mediation ‘FOR THE NATION’ is more than a campaign—it is a movement toward a just, accessible, and compassionate legal ecosystem. By promoting mediation as a cost-effective, time-saving, and relationship-preserving method of dispute resolution, NALSA and MCPC are inviting citizens to experience justice in its most humane form.
