(Judicial Quest News Network)
The Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) orchestrated a pivotal workshop, championing the integration of digitalization into legal aid practices while elevating the standard of assistance.
Under the esteemed guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee, the event convened to refine legal aid mechanisms for contemporary challenges.
Justice Gavai, in his stewardship as Executive Chairman of SCLSC, articulated the workshop’s core objective: identifying and promptly addressing legal aid deficiencies.
He envisioned a forthcoming feedback mechanism to enhance committee operations and underscored the indispensable role of Advocates on Record as the cornerstone of SCLSC’s advocacy.
The imperative of facilitating interactions between legal aid counsels and incarcerated individuals through Video Conferencing was underscored, ensuring access to justice for undertrials.
Drawing from the profound philosophies of Nyaya and Niti, as expounded by luminaries such as Sh. Amartya Sen, Justice Gavai elucidated the deeper purpose of legal aid.
The sessions, tailored for SCLSC-affiliated lawyers, honed their proficiency in digital initiatives while exploring the broader spectrum of delivering quality legal aid.
Justice Gavai invoked the egalitarian ethos enshrined in the Indian Constitution, echoing Justice Vivian Bose’s poignant words: “The Constitution exists not solely for governments and states but also for the common man, the poor, and the humble.”
This gathering served as a nexus for panel lawyers to assimilate digital tools into their practice, augmenting the efficacy and accessibility of legal services.
Ms. Vibha Datta Makhija delivered a resonant welcome address, tracing the historic evolution of SCLSC. The sessions, helmed by Mr. Yajuvender Singh and Ms. Kiran Suri, delved into digital initiatives and the quality benchmarks of legal aid, respectively.
Attended by distinguished Advocates on Record, this workshop signifies a watershed moment in SCLSC’s trajectory toward modernizing legal aid services. It epitomizes a commitment to resilience, responsiveness, and community-centric legal aid solutions.
