ED Strikes Hard: Rs. 1 Crore Scam Unveiled In SC/ST Scholarship Fraud

Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Dehradun has provisionally attached one immovable property worthRs.1 Crore(approx.) under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 in the form of land and building situated in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand belonging to the Vardhman Educational Society which runs Institute of Management Studies, Roorkee and IMS Institute of Technology, Roorkee against the Proceeds of Crime of Rs. 1 Crore (approx.) in the case of SC/ST Scholarship Scam.
ED initiated investigation on the basis of FIR registered by P.S, SIDCUL, Haridwar, Uttarakhand under various sections of IPC 1860 against members of Vardhman Educational Society.
ED investigation revealed that Institute of Management Studies, Roorkee and IMS Institute of Technology, Roorkee had fraudulently received huge amount of scholarship in the name of SC/ST students from Social Welfare Department, Haridwar for the period 2013-14 to 2016-17.
It is also revealed that the institution had made false claims to obtain scholarship under SC/ST Scholarship Scheme.
The amounts of scholarship in the form of personal expense of students and tuition fees of college have been credited into the account of the college.
The said amount has been siphoned off by the Chairman and other members of the Vardhman Educational Society, and caused huge financial loss to the public exchequer.
ED investigation further revealed that this ill-gotten money was further diverted to either the bank accounts of Vardhman Educational Society or to other accounts of the college and was utilized for the expenses of the trustees was withdrawn in cash.
Further investigation is under progress.
